The Plaquemines Parish Council on Sept. 12 appointed Charles Gui as interim constable for Justice of the Peace Ward 6 following the resignation of incumbent Debbie Knockan, effective Aug. 31.
Council member Schultz introduced the resolution to fill the vacancy until the March election. A council member announced the nominee as “Charles Gui,” and the presiding officer said he had spoken with other council members and that Gui — described in the meeting as a former deputy — was the only name put forward. The presiding officer also provided a brief overview, stating that Debbie Knockan had resigned as of Aug. 31 and that an interim constable was needed until the March election.
The motion to appoint Gui was seconded and placed for a vote. With machines opened and no public objections, the council recorded the appointment as passing 8 to 0, with Doctor Gooey stepping away from the vote for the record. The appointee was described as primarily serving Belle Chasse.
