Resident urges action after shootings, crashes and alleged drug activity on Maple Leaf Lane

During public comment on Sept. 23, a Maple Leaf Lane resident who signed up as "Mister Mulroney" told the commission he has lived on the dead‑end street for 12 years and described repeated crashes, four shootings and ongoing suspected drug activity at a small number of addresses.
The resident said cars regularly make short stops and quick departures at one property in a pattern he described as "runners," and that the activity occurs day and night. "I can step out of my front porch to have a cigarette, which takes about 6 to 7 minutes, and he'll have anywhere from 3 to 4 runners come in his driveway... 3 to 4 in 6 minutes," he said. He added that he does not feel safe letting his children play outside on the street.
City and law‑enforcement representatives responded that investigations into organized drug activity require time to build prosecutable cases. One official said a prior report led to an arrest and that the departments "have made some big busts here lately," but also cautioned that complex investigations take time so suspects will not be prosecuted and then walk free. Staff also noted that the East side bike and pedestrian path project, when completed, will realign some intersections and could improve traffic conditions in that part of the city.
The commission thanked the commenter for raising the safety concerns; no formal policy action was taken during the meeting, but commissioners discussed additional patrols and communication with state District 7 about traffic measures.
