Nicholasville approves purchase of Polaris park vehicle using state forfeiture funds

The Nicholasville City Commission on Sept. 23 approved the police department’s request to purchase a Polaris park vehicle to replace a disabled Kubota.
Chief Fleming said the Polaris model chosen is more road‑ready and suitable for patrol duties and estimated the base price at $54,336.85 with upfitting costs of $4,000–$5,000. "We are gonna pay for this out of forfeiture," Chief Fleming said, noting the department expects to receive about $320,000 from a recent seizure award that generated nearly $400,000 in proceeds and that these purchases will not come from the general fund.
Commissioners supported the purchase and suggested adding a sticker or marking to indicate the vehicle was paid for with forfeiture funds so the public knows it did not come from tax dollars. Chief Fleming said further vehicle requests for community‑services and unmarked vehicles will also be funded from forfeiture and may be presented to the commission next month.
