Butte supervisors adopt local hazard mitigation plan to meet FEMA requirements

The Butte County Board of Supervisors on March 11 voted to adopt a resolution formally incorporating the county's Local Hazard Mitigation Plan into the Safety Element of the General Plan, a step staff said is required by assembly bill AB 2140 and FEMA procedures.
Paula Danalek, director of Development Services, told the board the county had submitted the plan to FEMA for review and that the resolution links the full mitigation plan to the safety element via a reference. "Before you today is the resolution incorporating it formally into our safety element, and we are asking you to adopt that resolution and authorize the chair to sign it," Danalek said.
Deputy CAO Daniel Newsom and other staff framed the adoption as a prerequisite for state approvals and to position the county for federal and state hazard-mitigation funding and future debris-removal coordination following the Park and Thompson fires.
After a motion and second, the board approved the resolution by voice vote. Staff said the adoption would permit the state to process related recovery waivers and help move forward other hazard-mitigation tasks tied to wildfire recovery.
