Auditor says supplemental billing is current as Inyo works through roll corrections backlog

Auditor‑Controller Amy Shepherd updated the board on the county’s property tax billing and roll correction work, saying the auditor’s office has processed about 1,400 roll corrections and roughly 900 supplemental bills since the start of the fiscal year.
"Supplemental billing is completely current, except with the exception 11 accounts that have a technical issue that need to be corrected by the vendor," Shepherd said, describing efforts to isolate problematic conversion cases and penalty assessments that require manual review.
Shepherd said the office is about two‑thirds of the way through roll corrections and estimated roughly 500 roll corrections remain, including about 80 exclusions that are not real bills but require remediation. She credited a cross‑departmental working group and a recent site visit for accelerating progress through December.
Board members asked whether an informal department head report satisfied a grand jury request for transparency; Shepherd said an informal report was intentional but that a formal response would follow in line with the grand jury’s request.
Shepherd said the remaining implementation issues will be addressed in the coming budget cycle and asked the board to expect continued coordination while the office completes the backlog and formalizes a response to outstanding audit/grand-jury items.
