Inyo County approves $67,749 donation to Death Valley National Park community center project

The Inyo County Board of Supervisors voted Feb. 25 to authorize a $67,749 contribution from District 5 transient occupancy tax improvement funds for improvements to a community center in Death Valley National Park.
County staff told the board the funds will be used to help rehabilitate an old school building for use as a community center and to relocate the county library currently housed in employee housing; the park service will own and operate the facility but county use for events or public services was discussed. Board members asked whether an MOU would secure county access over time; staff said the park could hold the contributed funds in a restricted trust for the project and that the county would pursue an access agreement if the board wanted one.
The board moved and approved the donation and authorized the County Administrator to sign the agreement by voice vote.
