The Board of Supervisors authorized two Health and Human Services Agency items during its Feb. 18 meeting to support a North County service center.
CA 18 authorizes Mariposa County HHS to accept a $983,625 award from Central California Alliance for Health to support capital improvements at the North County building acquired by the county. HHS Director Christina Kahele said the facility will provide behavioral health, clinic services (including a room suitable for clinical encounters), public‑health services such as immunizations, and eligibility services for benefits, with space for partner agencies and five‑day operations if possible.
CA 19 authorizes the county to apply for a USDA Rural Utilities Service Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant for approximately $937,363.57; the application includes a proposed local match of $122,264.81 if the award is granted. Kahele noted the telemedicine equipment will let staff provide services in both South and North County in the same day.
Supervisor Poe praised the teams who moved both projects forward and asked for an ongoing timeline and progress updates; Kahele said the county hopes to open the North County site within about a year but noted contractor availability could affect that schedule.
No formal board vote was required beyond the normal consent/adoption process for accepting grants and authorizing applications; supervisors expressed support and asked for status reports.
