Mariposa County releases public draft of updated Hazard Mitigation Plan for review

Mariposa County received a briefing on the public-draft update to its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, which is now available for public review.
Anna Davis, a senior urban planner with AECOM, told the board the county's fourth plan update was prepared quickly to meet new 2023 guidance and a compressed schedule for Cal OES and FEMA review. The update incorporates recent census data, refined asset lists geocoded against hazard zones, updated hazard profiles, and a prioritized set of projects for the next five years. Ten priority projects include fuel-management work, expansion of home-hardening programs, hazardous-tree removal, community resilience center planning, burn-scar slope stabilization, green infrastructure for Mariposa Creek Parkway, and backup-power systems.
The consultant said the plan will be sent to FEMA after the public-review period closes and anticipates adoption-pending-FEMA-approval in May and final FEMA approval in June. Davis and county emergency staff encouraged the public and stakeholders to comment during the public-review window.
The board thanked emergency services staff and consultant teams and noted the plan aligns with other county planning documents.
