Plumas County authorizes administration of $567,500 program for Dixie Fire business recovery grants

Plumas County adopted a resolution to authorize Planning Director Tracy Ferguson to administer a $567,500 federal/state grant that will provide at least 25 economic recovery grants (generally up to about $20,000 each) to businesses affected by the 2021 Dixie Fire within specified census tracts.
The Plumas County Board of Supervisors voted Feb. 18 to adopt a resolution authorizing the planning director to sign grant agreements and administer a $567,500 business economic development grant program for Dixie Fire recovery.
Tracy Ferguson, Planning Director, said the funds are federal (Department of Housing and Community Development) administered through the state and are intended for businesses directly or indirectly affected by the 2021 Dixie Fire within defined census block groups. The grant requires at least 25 recipients and is open on a rolling basis through March 2026. To date, Ferguson said 10 awards have been underwritten and a consultant (Michael Baker International) is assisting with administration.
Eligible uses include equipment purchases, operating capital (payroll, insurance, utilities, rent/mortgage for up to six months) and other capital improvements. Ferguson said most awards will be near $20,000 and the board delegated authority to the planning director to execute individual grant agreements.
Board members thanked staff and community partners assisting outreach and indicated additional marketing will follow to reach eligible businesses.
