Rockville wins $800,000 state grant for EV chargers; council approves consent items including Memory Walk art and Scott Veirs Drive agreement

City Manager Michalek reported that Rockville will receive an $800,000 grant from the Maryland Energy Administration to install four publicly available fast-charging electric vehicle stations at the Swim and Fitness Center. "You guys know that an $800,000 grant to install 4 publicly available fast charging EV stations at our swim and fitness center," Michalek said, noting staff involvement in the application process.
At the same meeting the council took unanimous action on the consent agenda. Consent items included authorization for the city manager to execute Amendment No. 1 with the State of Maryland Energy Administration to provide a no-cost contract extension (contract number read in the agenda), approval of the Memory Walk public-art proposal by artist Dinah Fisher for Lincoln Park, a supplemental agreement with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration for the Scott Veirs Drive shared-use path design project, and approval of minutes. A motion to approve the consent agenda was made, seconded, and approved by voice vote.
City staff also noted related community announcements: expanded SNAP acceptance at the Saturday farmers market through the month of November and the opening of a fourth compost drop-off station at Potomac Woods Park in coordination with the America Recycles Day proclamation.
Outcome: Consent agenda passed by voice vote at the meeting; staff will implement the grant-funded EV infrastructure project and proceed with the approved agreements.
