Board approves benchmark survey, donations and facility-plan revisions; consent agenda passes

The Austin Public School District board approved several routine and policy items during the meeting.

Consent agenda: The board approved the consent agenda by voice vote after a motion (motion by Bob, second by Dan).

Benchmark survey: The board approved a request to proceed with a district benchmark survey intended to gather community attitudes about facility needs and funding options, following earlier facility and demographic studies. The motion to start the survey was made by Lewis and passed by voice vote.

Donations: The district's executive director of finance and operations read a detailed list of donations; examples recorded in the meeting include Lions Club $200 to the AHS Orchestra, Cornerstone Assembly of God Church $2,000 for food and nutrition services, and American Legion Post 91 $900 to the AHS Physics program. The board approved the donations after a motion by Cece and second by Dan.

Long-term facility maintenance plan: Staff presented revisions to the district's 10-year long-term facility maintenance plan and said the plan must be submitted to the Minnesota Department of Education under Minnesota Statute 123B.595. The updates include gym and hallway painting projects, unfinished parking-lot work carried over from wet weather, and playground repairs. The board approved the revisions (motion with recorded seconds by Dan and Bob).

Each item was approved by the board by voice vote and will be reflected in the district's upcoming revised budget and submittals to the Minnesota Department of Education.
