Board honors Direct Relief, recognizes 211 services and approves several administrative items

The board passed a resolution naming Samuel D. Patton employee of the month for February 2025, with Chief Deputy Assessor Michael Daley presenting Patton and praising his public service. The board also adopted a resolution honoring Thomas Tagg for his leadership of Direct Relief; Tagg thanked county leaders and emphasized the organization's local and global work.
Supervisors also commended 2‑1‑1 Santa Barbara and the nonprofit Communify for operating the county's multilingual referral helpline, noting that nearly 6,500 residents used the service in 2024 and that the top caller needs were housing, mental‑health/substance‑use treatment and utility assistance. Communify's CEO Patricia Keelan described services including Head Start programs and utility and weatherization assistance for vulnerable families.
On procedural items the board approved a department request to withdraw Planning & Development Item No. 1 (an appeal related to Blanco grading and Access Road improvements) and approved administrative actions including two freeway maintenance agreements with Caltrans for segments of Highway 101. The board also set a public hearing for Feb. 25 to consider appeals by environmental groups related to pipeline and offshore facility approvals; one supervisor recused from that item because the pipeline runs near their property.
These administrative actions were adopted by motion and voice votes during the morning's administrative agenda.
