County staff described plans to begin in-house hauling for dewatering (equipment already ordered) to reduce operating costs and said the longer-term objective is to lease or purchase heavy equipment and add staff to assume responsibility for management of the landfill's back areas. Given that transition would take time, staff recommended renewing the contract for an additional year while staff develops those plans and briefs the board on next steps.
Following discussion, a motion to renew the landfill contract for one year was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
