HRIC updates: native-plaque outreach, scholarships, charter search and facilities concern

David reported that outreach to the Native American Awareness Council about a proposed Native history plaque has so far received no reply; he emphasized the committee should involve Native stakeholders in developing the plaque's content.
Members discussed the scholarship program's direction: whether awards should recognize graduating seniors only or also support nontraditional students, apprentices and students engaged in equity and inclusion activity during the school year. Charles and other members suggested the committee explore supporting students during the school year rather than only with a graduation award.
Paul and Charles reported a constructive meeting with the superintendent and assistant superintendent (Mary Wormers) and discussed inviting Mary and her team to present to the HRIC after the MLK event. On fundraising, members noted that the Friends of Danvers (a 501(c)(3)) handles donations and that HRIC funds are managed through that nonprofit.
A facilities concern arose when several members, including Michelle, arrived before 7 p.m. and found Town Hall doors locked; the committee asked staff to prevent that from recurring.
The committee tabled a fundraising update until the member who leads that work can attend and adjourned with holiday wishes.
