On Nov. 25 Daly City’s council adopted a Ramaytush Ohlone land acknowledgement to be read at public council meetings. Staff described outreach with the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone and presented text recognizing the Ramaytush Ohlone as the ancestral people of the San Francisco Peninsula and Daly City area.
A representative from the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone attended and spoke in support of acknowledgements that move beyond performative gestures to practical collaboration and legal protections, noting that acknowledgements help fulfill obligations under state heritage safeguards and create pathways for meaningful consultation. Councilmembers expressed support for further cultural and arts partnerships, suggested outreach with the Arts and Culture Commission, and unanimously adopted the resolution.
Councilmembers and staff described the step as the first of several actions the city can take to honor and collaborate with native communities, including potential cultural programming, educational events and efforts to support tribal participation in local planning matters.
