Daly City library receives $20,700 from local associates to replace laptops, expand early-learning tech

The Daly City Public Library received a $20,700 grant from the Daly City Public Library Associates (DCPLA), a local support organization, the board heard at its Nov. 19 meeting. DCPLA vice president Daniel Barros told trustees the award, presented Oct. 28, is split into two parts: $5,700 to replace six laptops at the John Daly branch and $15,000 earmarked for early-learning computers across the John Daly, Westlake and Bayshore branches.
Barros said DCPLA recently hosted an Art and Lit Festival on Nov. 3 at the Ceremony Center and is accepting applications for the Daly City Youth Poet Laureate through Jan. 30, 2025. He told the board DCPLA considers these grants and events part of its ongoing partnership with the library to support programming and technology needs.
Trustees thanked DCPLA for the contributions and asked about a pending partnership item listed in DCPLA minutes; Barros said DCPLA's Oct. 17 meeting was canceled and the partnership item has not yet been discussed, with DCPLA expecting to address it when it reconvenes in January.
The board did not take formal action on the grant at the Nov. 19 meeting; Barros presented the award and answered trustees' questions during the presentations portion of the agenda. The library said the grant funds will be used for the stated equipment purchases once procurement steps are completed.
