Daly City sets Dec. 9 hearing to consider creating a women's commission

The Daly City Council on Nov. 25 set a public hearing for Dec. 9 to consider an ordinance adding Chapter 2.6 to the Daly City Municipal Code to establish a Women’s Commission. Leilani Ramos (staff) told the council the ad hoc committee (mayor and Council Member Teresa Perano) began work in 2024 and staff drafted the ordinance and a statement of purpose.
Staff said the commission would advise the council on policies and programs to improve quality of life and equity for women in Daly City, and referenced a prior council resolution supporting the UN Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Councilmembers asked process questions about ad hoc reporting, potential staff resources and costs, and how members would be appointed; council agreed the next meeting should include the ad hoc report and clarifying details about staffing and time commitments.
The council unanimously approved setting the hearing date and asked staff to prepare any requested cost and process details in advance of the public hearing.
