Daly City library associates announce $15,000 grant for early‑learning computers, local support for branch laptops

The Daly City Public Library Associates told the board Oct. 15 that the group secured a $15,000 grant from the Sunlight Giving Foundation to replace early‑learning computers at the John Daly, Westlake and Bayshore branches. The associate reported an additional $5,700 from a local municipal supporter to replace six laptops at the John Daly branch.
"We got $15,000 which is a really nice amount of money to replace early learning computers," the DCPLA representative said during the presentation. The speaker said the additional $5,700 comes from a town partner (transcript: "Coma") that the associates regularly work with.
DCPLA also previewed several public programs. The group invited trustees to the Art Lit Fest on Nov. 2 and said it will participate in the Top of the Hill festival this weekend. The Daly City Youth Poet Laureate, Maxwell Espinola, and other featured poets are scheduled to perform at both events. DCPLA requested candy donations for a trunk‑or‑treat event on Oct. 19.
The associates described fundraising as difficult this year and said the Sunlight Giving Foundation award is unusually large for their usual grants. They asked trustees and staff to help publicize the upcoming events and to coordinate logistics for donations and performances.
The board did not take any formal action on funding at the meeting; the presentation served to inform trustees and request community participation in the listed events.
