Daly City’s council proclaimed September 2024 as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month on Sept. 23 and heard remarks from Dr. Barry Chouser, who urged earlier screening and conversations with primary care clinicians.
Chouser summarized clinical guidance and said men should discuss testing with their doctors. "Men at age 45 should at least review with their physicians getting tested," he said, and noted men who are African American, have a family history of prostate cancer or had exposure to Agent Orange are at increased risk and may need earlier screening.
The proclamation included national and state estimates of prostate cancer diagnoses and deaths; the council framed the action as public‑health education and thanked Chouser for his advocacy. Council members and the public exchange questions about symptoms, prevention and advances in less‑invasive treatments.
