Daly City issues heritage, service and awareness proclamations at special meeting

Jonathan Mincer, director of external relations for JCRC Bay Area, called on the council to “organize a training about Jewish identity and antisemitism so local officials and staff can better understand and serve their Jewish constituents.”
The council also proclaimed May 2024 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Daly City and noted the city’s AANHPI population share. Valerie Sebel accepted on behalf of the Myanmar community and spoke about her Daly City roots and community contributions.
Other proclamations issued during the meeting included National Police Week, Water Awareness Month (with staff noting the North County sanitation district provides recycled water), and Pride Month (June 2024), with the mayor inviting residents to a progress‑pride flag raising and county pride events.
The proclamations are ceremonial recognitions; several community leaders used their speaking time to call for follow‑up training, community events, and continued outreach to strengthen relationships between the city and diverse constituencies.
