Willie Gordon, assistant residency administrator for the Department of Transportation, provided the quarterly projects update to the Board of Supervisors.
"We started a rural rusted project, Greenwood Road. Project started on November 4," Gordon said, listing active and upcoming work. He said the Barbadosville (Barberville) roundabout project has been awarded and construction should begin within a year after contractor startup meetings; Route 20/3 and Route 20/55 are in the preliminary engineering (PE) phase with public hearings anticipated in spring 2027.
Gordon reviewed completed November activities (animal removals, debris and brush clearance, pothole repairs, ditching, pipe cleaning and a pipe replacement at Route 522 at ECC stables) and described an upcoming shoulder-widening/intersection-improvement work at Porter and Route 20 to reduce truck shoulder damage. He noted the Route 3 study is on hold pending resolution of development in Wilderness Shores.
Supervisors asked about maintenance responsibility for Hayden River Road and other project timing; Gordon confirmed state maintenance for Hayden River Road and offered to follow up on petitions and STARS program details.
What’s next: DOT staff will provide follow-up on the STARS program and continue coordination on start-up and scheduling for awarded construction projects.
