Clatsop County commissioners review applicants to fill budget committee vacancies; appointments set for Dec. 11

Andrew Sullivan, the county’s director of finance, told commissioners the county has two vacancies on the countywide budget committee — for Districts 1 and 4 — and four vacancies on the 4‑H and Extension district committee. He also said the "row district number 1" and the Westward sewer district currently have no citizen members and staff may ask the board to serve for those committees if applicants are not identified.
"We have 2 vacancies on the county wide budget committee for Districts 1 And 4," Sullivan said, noting staff had received applications for the open positions.
Several commissioners expressed support for named applicants. "I would be 100% in support of inviting Lindsay Davis on, as a budget committee member," said Commissioner Banks. Commissioner Toyoka, who said she knows Lindsay through the Cedar Board and described her as thorough, seconded that endorsement. Commissioner Thompson said, "I've worked with Lindsay Davis for a decade and she'd pretty much be appointed to anything she wanted to serve in," while also flagging that "the only concern I have" about Danelle Davis was that "she's got a very busy practice" that could limit time for committee work.
The chair said she had known Lindsay Davis for a long time and supported reappointing Danelle Davis as well, citing Danelle's prior service on the budget committee.
Commissioner Banks also noted applicants Ed Johnson and Lindsay Davis among the 4‑H candidates and raised a residency question for one applicant in Brownsmeade. Sullivan said district numbers are self‑reported by applicants and staff would verify residency and correct the record as needed before the board's Dec. 11 appointment meeting.
No formal votes or motions were taken at the work session. Sullivan confirmed staff will return next week with nominees for formal appointment at the Dec. 11 meeting. The work session lasted about nine minutes and then adjourned.
