New River City Campground owner briefs council on progress, hopes to open by next spring

Kenny Ford, who identified himself as one of the owners of New River City Campground (also referred to as New River City Retreat), used the public-comment period to update council on project status and timeline.
Ford said engineering plans have been completed and submitted to the city for review, the city has returned comments, and erosion controls and silt fences are installed. He told council that “We hope to start grading next week” and that the development team is working to limit tree removal though some trees must be removed for site work. He said some permits have already been issued and the project’s opening timeline depends on winter weather and construction progress; he said he hopes to open in May or June next year.
Council members thanked Ford for the update, asked him to return as milestones are reached, and encouraged citizens to contact council about interest in local boards. The presiding speaker and staff also noted construction permitting, utility coordination and the city’s positive working relationship with the developer.
What’s next: Ford said grading could begin as soon as next week and the developer will keep council informed of milestones. The project’s start and opening dates remain contingent on permit clearance and weather.
