Students urge board to retain varsity volleyball coaches after resignation

Two student athletes spoke during the public comment period at the Nov. 18 Goshen Local Board of Education meeting to urge the board and administration to preserve continuity in the varsity volleyball program following the resignation of head coach Amy Bryant.
Brynn Gideo, introduced herself as a senior and said Bryant "was on the forefront creating the youth program" and has been a mentor and role model. Gideo said Bryant coached in the district for about 10 years and that her dedication "has made a lasting impact on not only Goshen volleyball, but individual lives."
Macy Steele, a sophomore and varsity team captain, told the board she and teammates were concerned the program would be negatively affected by Bryant’s departure and said she hoped assistant coach Anna Brooker could continue leading the program. "I feel that not just by myself, but the team will be negatively impacted by the loss of coach Amy Bryant due to her resignation," Steele said.
Both students asked the board to consider retention or replacement options that would preserve coaching continuity and support for student-athletes. The board thanked the speakers; no immediate personnel action was taken during the meeting and the matter was part of the personnel items the board later approved.
