The Randolph County Board of Education began its December meeting with a formal swearing-in of newly elected and reelected members. Judge Jimmy Hill administered the oath of office to board members, who each repeated the constitutionally required language and pledged to faithfully execute their duties.
Members sworn in during the ceremony included Gary Cook, Sharon Petty Farlow, Tracy Boyles and Todd Cutler. After the oaths, the board moved to organize leadership for the coming year. Gary Cook was nominated and appointed chair by acclamation after a motion and a voice vote. Sharon Petty Farlow was then nominated and confirmed as vice chair by voice vote.
Cook opened the regular meeting with holiday remarks thanking families, staff and community partners and expressing appreciation for the board’s teamwork. The board then proceeded to its agenda, which included recognitions and several informational and action items.
Judge Hill’s administration of the oath and the leadership appointments were procedural actions taken at the meeting; no contested votes or objections were recorded on those items.
