Clearlake reviews redistricting visualizations; maps could change county and congressional representation

Clearlake councilmembers received updates on both county and state/federal redistricting visualizations and discussed potential effects on local representation.
Staff summarized the county process and said the council had favored Option 3 for balanced population across supervisorial districts, but county supervisors proposed different boundary shifts that would alter which supervisor represents parts of the city. Staff noted a final county meeting on Nov. 30 when the map is expected to be approved.
The staff presentation also included new congressional, state senate and assembly visualizations that would pair Lake County with Napa County and portions of Solano and Yolo counties. The congressional visualization shown in the meeting would place Lake County with much of Napa and parts of Marin, potentially changing which members of Congress include Clearlake in their districts.
Councilmembers were encouraged to submit comments through the commission’s website or send official correspondence if they wished to request changes. Staff said the board of supervisors had already submitted input on earlier visualizations and that the commission had adjusted maps in response.
The council did not take formal action but asked staff to continue monitoring the process and to report back if any recommended changes would affect Clearlake’s representation.
