Clearlake — The City Council on March 3 proclaimed March 2022 as 'March for Meals Month' to recognize the Meals on Wheels program and volunteer drivers who deliver meals and welfare checks to homebound seniors.
The proclamation cited the national program’s origins and local volunteers as the "backbone" of the program. A Meals on Wheels representative described a March fundraiser and urged residents to volunteer or donate; Margaret Garcia, a local resident, said the program is dear to her family and asked how to sign up. Staff directed residents to the senior center and the program website for information.
Council thanked volunteers and noted drivers perform welfare checks and call for emergency services when needed. "In fact, today, we actually saved two of our clients today by being able to call an ambulance for them," the Meals on Wheels representative said.
Next steps: Council recognized the program and encouraged community participation in the March fundraiser.
