The Clearlake City Council read and adopted a set of proclamations at its May 5 meeting recognizing Military Appreciation Month (May 2022), Police Week (including Peace Officers Memorial Day), Public Service Recognition Week (May 1–7), Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month (May 2022), Economic Development Week (May 9–13) and National Small Business Week (May 1–7).
During the maternal mental health proclamation, Liz Anderson, executive director of Motherwise (joining by Zoom), said the nonprofit provided support to 1,414 mothers and families in Lake County last year and that 199 of the clients served this year were expecting or new mothers in Clearlake. Anderson thanked the council for the recognition and credited expanded staff and nonprofit status for recent program growth.
Council members used the proclamation segment to recognize the police department and public servants and to highlight local economic-development and small-business efforts. No formal actions were taken beyond adopting the proclamations and inviting Motherwise to speak.
Council encouraged public recognition and community support for the designated observances.
