Clearlake extends temporary road closures to curb illegal dumping

Clearlake — The City Council voted unanimously to extend temporary road closures aimed at reducing illegal dumping and protecting public health and the environment.
Public works staff reported that prior authorizations (starting July 2020/2021) and purchases of K-rail, gates and other materials have been effective in deterring dumping in targeted areas. Staff recommended adopting Resolution 2023-03 to continue the temporary closures, including the Burns Valley Road segment from Arrowhead Drive to Acacia Street, and explained a California Vehicle Code requirement that public hearings be held every 18 months to extend closures.
Vice Mayor Claffey moved to approve Resolution 2023-03; Councilmember Kramer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Staff noted that some larger closures still require additional planning and resources to ensure resident access, and that staff expect to continue strengthening physical barriers as needed.
