Clear Lake approves new community development specialist position and salary range

The Clear Lake City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2024-21 on Thursday to establish a new community development specialist classification and salary range to support the building and planning department.
Staff said the position will replace a prior secretary/permit technician role and will perform clerical and technical support tasks, permit processing, record keeping and assist with budget preparation. The job is full time and will be filled via recruitment; staff said no budget adjustment is required for this fiscal year due to savings from existing vacancies.
During council discussion members asked whether bilingual skills would be required. Staff said bilingual (Spanish) ability would be preferred but not mandatory, and noted the city offers certification incentives and training for employees who attain bilingual competency.
Miss Swanson read the pay band: the position is at "range 29," which the report showed as a monthly salary range. Staff read figures during the meeting; the personnel report and pay bands are available on the council agenda packet posted online.
Council moved, seconded and voted unanimously to approve the resolution.
