During the July 9 meeting, the Clear Lake Planning Commission selected officers for the coming year and heard staff updates on several city projects.
Commissioner Fawn Williams was nominated and confirmed as chair and Jack Smalley was confirmed as vice chair by voice vote. The reorganization occurred after the evening’s public hearings and formal votes.
City Manager Flora reported organizational changes in the building division (bringing plan review and building inspection services in-house) intended to improve turnaround times. Flora also announced the notice of preparation for the Airport Redevelopment Project environmental impact report had been issued and a public scoping meeting before the planning commission was planned for the commission’s next regular meeting; the initial public comment period was scheduled to close in early August. Flora summarized ongoing litigation affecting several projects (including an appeal and pending hearing in appellate court for the Eighteenth Avenue and Hotel project and a trial for the Burns Valley Sports Complex), and noted contract cost increases delaying a road project were costing the city roughly $36,000 a month.
Commissioners offered brief updates and scheduling notes. The commission adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
