At the Oct. 30 meeting the School Committee took the following formal actions:
• Acceptance of gifts: Motion to accept gifts (donations to McCarthy, Dunning, Harmony Grove, Fine and Performing Arts, Fuller, Barbieri, health & wellness and other school‑specific items including assemblies, robotics fees, gift cards and coats) was moved by Ms. Maskell and seconded by Mr. LaBarge. After discussion about PTO donations and whether certain programming (example: BMX anti‑bullying assembly) should be district‑wide, the motion passed by roll call (ayes recorded across districts present).
• Approval of minutes: Motion to approve minutes from Sept. 4 and Sept. 18 was moved by Miss Moshe and seconded by Mr. Freyberg; the committee approved the minutes by roll call vote.
• Adjournment: A motion to adjourn was moved by Ms. LaBarge and seconded; the roll‑call motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 8:28 p.m.
Context on gifts: Members asked the administration to develop clearer guidance for accepting school donations and whether some donor‑funded programs that affect the school day (for example, curriculum or assemblies) should be evaluated for district‑wide equity. Administrators noted the difficulty of imposing governance on independent PTOs but said they would bring policy considerations to the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and policy subcommittees.
