Crockett City Council approved awarding concrete-repair work for a downtown parking lot, driveways and sidewalks using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
Staff described a deteriorated parking lot with trip hazards, large cracks and an undermined area where a storm drain was allowing silt and dirt to erode material under the slab. Staff recommended removing the existing pavement, repairing the storm system, regrading and installing a new concrete surface (commercial-grade 6-inch thickness, 4,000 PSI) and ADA-compliant sidewalks and ramps.
Staff said multiple contractors were contacted but the city's set-aside of $200,000 had been insufficient for an originally scoped larger project, so they pivoted to repair priorities. One provider familiar to staff quoted a price of $47,000 for the repair work; council moved and approved awarding the contract to Velasquez Brothers Concrete LLC by voice vote.
Staff said the work will increase safe parking near downtown businesses and allow the city to enforce customer parking rules and two-hour limits while preserving spaces for customers. The contractor was reported ready to start immediate cleanup and work.
