County staff present $2.41 million resurfacing list for FY2025 LMIG program

Dougherty County — Public Works staff on Dec. 9 presented the county's recommended FY2025 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) resurfacing list, estimating a total cost of $2,412,241.49 to resurface 10.97 miles.
Staff said the total includes a local match and program funds: $459,427.54 in local LMIG funds and $1,952,813.95 for resurfacing work. The recommended work will proceed through Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) processing, with GDOT authorizing funding early next year and county staff planning construction after that step.
Commissioners raised questions about pavement thickness and value engineering. Staff said recent projects have sometimes moved to a 1.25‑inch overlay standard from 1.5 inches to stay within budget while remaining within GDOT specifications. They cautioned that pavement performance depends on local uses and that heavier industrial traffic on state routes, not county roads, drives many weight‑limit issues.
The board directed staff to return with timing and more detailed line‑item door counts for branches and roads as needed. The item was presented for approval as the LMIG application/priority list; staff said final schedules will depend on GDOT funding allocation and bid results.
