Emily Kleiner was sworn in as a member of the Town of Rising Sun board of commissioners at the April 13 town meeting, filling a previously open seat. Mayor moved to appoint Kleiner and the motion carried by voice vote; the clerk of the circuit court administered the oath of office.
Mayor said Kleiner was raised near Rising Sun and has family ties to the area, and nominated her to the open seat. "Tonight, I'm honored to put the name forward of Emily Kleiner to fill the board of commissioners open seat," the mayor said. Commissioners welcomed Kleiner after the oath.
The board also approved a slate of departmental assignments. The mayor named Augie Pearson to continue as public safety commissioner and to serve as vice mayor; David Wornick will remain parks and recreation commissioner; Pauline Braun was retained as water and sewer commissioner; Kleiner will oversee streets and sidewalks. The appointments were moved, seconded and approved by the board.
The new commissioner will take part in regular meetings and the mayor said commissioners had spoken with Kleiner before making the appointment. No further action was taken at the meeting; Kleiner will assume full responsibilities of her assigned portfolio going forward.
