Rising Sun board approves consent agenda, revises meeting schedule and confirms WinterFest; trash schedule clarified

During staff reports, Town Administrator Calvin clarified holiday trash and recycling timing: because Christmas falls on a Monday, collection that week will shift so Christmas-week trash collection will occur on Saturday; New Year’s collection and recyclables will be on Friday. Calvin also confirmed WinterFest will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, with ice skating, a snowboard simulator, carriage rides (town residents had first opportunity to reserve) and a lighted tractor parade down Main Street.
A police representative reported roughly 120 calls for service over two weeks, increased complaints about speeding on Wilson Avenue and Main Street (radar speed signs installed) and recent parking-enforcement actions in the Valley View development that resulted in several citations and vehicle removals. The officer urged residents to call 911 to report suspicious activity.
Commissioner Pearson said a citizen-organized town-hall meeting about a November incident and ongoing concerns with West Coast mushrooms will be held Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. at the American Legion; he emphasized the meeting is citizen-organized, not an official town meeting.
On scheduling, the board debated options for December and 2023. After discussion, Travis Wright moved to cancel Dec. 13, hold a meeting on Dec. 20 and adopt a regular meeting cadence of the second Tuesday of each month (which would make Jan. 10 and Feb. 14 the next scheduled meetings); the motion was seconded and passed.
