Committee reviews grandstand inspection, emergency plan, passes and operations ahead of fair

Fair staff gave a series of operational updates July 24 as the committee prepared for the upcoming fair, including safety inspections, emergency planning, volunteer coordination and distribution of season passes.
Staff said the grandstands were inspected and that a structural engineer must perform the required bleacher assessment; the engineer’s fee was quoted near $6,800 and lift rental to reach 80 feet was estimated at about $1,600. Committee members said they could not find prior records and asked staff to determine whether inspections must be done annually going forward.
Staff also said they are updating the fair’s emergency plan, coordinating sections with the police department and emergency management, and securing janitorial services for bathrooms. They reported that Broadwell Automation and other local volunteers have signed up to help with pre-fair cleanup and gate staffing.
In addition, staff confirmed season passes and distributed them to committee members—12 passes were listed with the standard allocation of one guest per pass. Staff said electricity for the event was evaluated and remains sufficient for planned vendor and stage needs, and recommended investing in lightning-detection equipment as a safety measure.
Committee members asked staff to provide final paperwork and timing for repairs, submit the structural-engineer report when complete, and track inspection and safety equipment costs for future budgeting.
