Richland County committee forwards slate of committee appointments to full board for confirmation

Committee members then proposed appointments for other vacancies. The committee suggested Supervisor Gil to represent Richland County on the Southwest Regional Planning Commission, Supervisor Banning for the campus reconfiguration committee, Supervisor Brookins for the public works committee, and Supervisor Woodhouse for executive and finance. The committee also discussed filling the Veterans Service Commission seat and an extra county seat on the Simons board; the Simons agreement governing membership dates back to 1987 and will require updating, the committee said, and attorney Windle was reported as working on proposed language revisions.
A member moved to amend the original motion to include the additional recommendations — adding Woodhouse for executive and finance; Brookens (Brookens/Brookins spelled variably in the discussion) for public works; Kramer for the Veterans Service Commission; Manning for the Campus Reconfiguration Committee; and Gil for the Southwest Regional Planning Commission. Supervisor Williamson seconded the amendment and the committee approved it by voice vote.
The committee then voted on the motion as amended to forward the listed appointments to the full county board for confirmation; members voted aye and the recommendations were sent on for the full-board vote. The committee noted a few remaining vacancies that will be addressed in a follow-up meeting once the committee has a full complement of members, and reminded members that some committee seats must be elected by the full board rather than filled administratively.
The meeting concluded with a motion by Supervisor Frank, seconded and approved, to adjourn.
Next steps: the full Richland County board will consider the forwarded appointment slate at its meeting for confirmation. If confirmed, the named supervisors will assume the listed committee roles and the county’s Simons agreement will be brought back for legal review and modernization.
