Polk County committee notes financials, appointments and upcoming events; work plan set for review

County staff reported several routine updates to the committee. Fiscal staff said November sales-tax receipts moved back into the black at +3.8 percent, which officials called a positive sign heading into budget work.
The county intends to issue requests for qualifications (RFQs) for employee health plans in 2025 as part of a broader redesign for 2026 coverage. Staff also reported a memorandum of agreement with the fair society on the grandstand project that reflects items previously discussed in closed session; the package will move forward to next steps.
Appointments were announced: staff said they will forward one reappointment to the university-affiliated position and one reappointment for a library support position to the full board. The committee was also told that an Algo Rec client public hearing on Dec. 3 passed and that the board will consider the item on Dec. 17.
The committee reviewed the draft work plan and agreed it largely follows prior formats and benchmarks; members asked staff to bring specific program reviews as they arise. The committee set its next meeting for Jan. 14 and discussed agenda items including a planned March community event on suicide-prevention and veterans outreach (a "sleep outside" event with vendors and chili to raise awareness).
One member noted an upcoming item on alcohol purchasing for the January meeting. The committee adjourned after a motion and oral vote.
