The sheriff (name not given in the transcript) described a recent operation that led to arrest of an alleged murderer less than a mile from the meeting location, crediting local and regional partners. "We captured a wanted alleged murderer less than a mile from where we sit here," the sheriff said, adding that the Hennepin County violent offender task force, Newbold PD and the State Department of Criminal Investigation assisted.
The sheriff called the operation a testament to staff training and canine support and noted the office's work often involves weekend operations and coordination with multiple agencies. He also updated the committee on grant awards: the sheriff—s office successfully renewed a tribal grant applied to a school resource position and received a PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) grant totaling about $259,000 with a $25,000 local match already budgeted. The sheriff said the PSAP funds will be used to upgrade radios, computers and other command-center technology and to help establish a backup dispatch center.
He reported correctional and court-related program counts for October: eight participants in treatment court with one graduation, four in substance diversion, two in the intoxicated driver program and one completion in IDIP. He tentatively scheduled a treatment court graduation for Friday, Dec. 6 at 9:00 a.m. and encouraged board members to attend.
The committee did not take additional action on these items at the meeting; the sheriff's report was informational.
