The Polk County Board of Supervisors voted on Oct. 15 to deny two rural-addressing petitions affecting South Deer Lake Circle and Shady Grove Shores, following committee review and statements from law enforcement and staff.
County staff and the Public Safety/Public Works Committee recommended denying the petitions because they did not meet petition requirements, including signatures from property owners in the case of Shady Grove Shores, and because of public-safety considerations raised previously by the sheriff’s office and the chief deputy. Staff explained that committees review petitions and forward either a recommendation to grant or to deny to the full board.
A motion to deny the two petitions was made and seconded and carried on a roll-call vote reported in the meeting. The board’s action implements the committee’s recommendation after committee members said they considered testimony from the sheriff and chief deputy and reviewed whether each petition conformed with ordinance signature requirements.
The chair called the roll for the board vote, and the motion passed by majority. The board returned to other agenda items, including budget and capital project discussions, after recording the vote.
