Polk County supervisors approved Resolution 34-24 on Aug. 20, adopting updates to the county's 2025 fee schedule. County staff explained the schedule is intended to recover the cost of administering services rather than generate revenue.
Staff highlighted increases on the health department side tied to state-level restructuring of inspection categories for pools, restaurants and campgrounds and to a change in the staffing model used to calculate inspection capacity. "Some of the health department ones were restructured," a staff presenter said, noting fees were recalibrated based on an assumption of three registered sanitarians rather than two.
Supervisors asked whether a previously discussed $30 garbage charge was included in the fee schedule. Staff said the garbage charge would be addressed as a separate budget resolution or special charge, not as a per-use fee in the fee schedule. One supervisor urged that the garbage amount be handled in resolution form to avoid scrivener errors in the fee schedule.
After discussion, a supervisor moved to approve the fee schedule resolution and the board adopted Resolution 34-24 by voice vote. The transcript records the board saying "aye" during the call for approval; no roll-call tally was recorded.
County staff said the fee packet shows the changes highlighted in yellow and that department directors are available to answer item-specific questions at future committee meetings.
