Under the terms discussed at the meeting, compensation from the district will increase overall (the chief described the previous total as $90,000 annually and the new arrangement as $180,000 annually); the board heard staff estimates that the district’s payment—$60,000 per officer—covers approximately one‑third of the total cost and that Middletown will carry the remainder. Acting Superintendent Jay Bowman was thanked for the district’s participation.
Board members asked whether the SRO would remain a township employee and about summer‑time on‑site presence; staff confirmed the officers are Middletown Township sworn employees under township control and that SROs are at the high school year‑round while middle‑school SROs patrol the township during summer months. One member asked whether the township budget covers the difference; staff confirmed the township would add the position to its sworn count (going from 59 to 60) and absorb costs not paid by the district.
A motion to approve the resolution was made, seconded and approved by the board.
