Council unanimously bars parking on Winston Street after resident raises safety concerns

The item followed a public comment from Dolores Mints, who told council that "the traffic is so bad that you can't get in and out of your driveway" and raised concerns about abandoned houses and a lack of sidewalks that forces children to walk in the street to reach the city pool. Staff said they had reviewed the corridor and that every residence along the segment has a driveway.
Sergeant Burgess and Chief Dustin Carter supported the amendment based on traffic volume and safety concerns; staff cited Thomasville City Code, Chapter 78, Article 8, Section 78-470 (schedule 10) as the section to be amended. A council motion to adopt the change passed 7–0.
Councilmembers asked staff to confirm driveway access prior to posting and to coordinate signage and enforcement after the ordinance amendment is codified. The council did not adopt a separate sidewalk construction plan at the meeting; the public commenter and others asked for sidewalks near the pool as a longer-term safety improvement.
