Council dissolves Silver Creek redevelopment area, approves appointments and honors retiring corrections deputy

At the March 8 meeting, the Summit County Community Development and Renewal Agency board, convened by the council, adopted Resolution 2023-32 to dissolve the Silver Creek Industrial Redevelopment Project area. Jeff Jones explained that the tax-increment collection period for the project ended in 2003 and that the agency expended project funds in December 2021. The board then reconvened as the county council and approved Ordinance 957 formally dissolving the project area.

Jeff Jones said staff will send required notices to affected taxing entities within 30 days and complete required state filings related to redevelopment agency closure.

Separately, the council reappointed Dan Seidroid (listed in packet as Dan Syroid/Saira) to the Timberline Special Service District for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2026. The council moved and seconded the reappointment and the motion passed unanimously.

Council also adopted Proclamation 2023-03 recognizing Darren Backman for 20 years of public service to Summit County in corrections and law enforcement. The proclamation recited Backman’s career history and contributions; council members offered thanks and best wishes.
