Council adopts proclamations: child abuse prevention month, honors retiring public-health nurse, recognizes animal-control staff

The Summit County Council on April 19 adopted three proclamations recognizing community priorities and county employees.

Child Abuse Prevention Month: Two Park City High School seniors who serve as youth liaisons to the Children—s Justice Center read a resolution asking the council to declare April as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month. The council unanimously adopted the proclamation.

Recognition of Jean Paskett: County public-health staff presented a tribute to Jean (Gene) Paskett, who is retiring after 29 years with the Summit County Health Department. Staff cited Paskett—s leadership running immunization programs (including homebound vaccinations), pandemic response work and long-standing community trust. The council unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing her service.

Animal Control Appreciation: County staff introduced a proclamation recognizing National Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week and named current animal control employees on the proclamation. The council adopted the proclamation with the requested staffing update and took a group photo with department members.

Procedure and votes: Each proclamation was moved, seconded and approved by unanimous voice vote during the meeting. The council asked staff to circulate proclamations and arrange photos with honorees.

Why it matters: The measures highlight county priorities for child protection and public health, and publicly acknowledge front-line county employees whose daily work supports community safety and services.
