Council reappoints two commissioners, appoints one new member to Eastern Summit County Planning Commission

The Summit County Council on April 19 voted unanimously to reappoint Marian Wheaton and Bill Wild and to appoint David Darcy to serve on the Eastern Summit County Planning Commission, with terms set to expire Feb. 28, 2026.

The council conducted interviews earlier in the meeting with the applicants. Marian Wheaton described priorities for the eastern valley that include protecting underground water sources, managing growth pressures, coordinating more closely with municipalities, and updating the county—s general plan and codes. Several council members thanked Wheaton for reapplying.

Bill Wild, a six-year planning commissioner, reiterated his emphasis on property rights but acknowledged water and sewer as ongoing countywide challenges. David Darcy told the council his professional background includes financial and long-range planning and said he hopes to contribute strategic and analytical expertise.

Procedure and vote: The motion to reappoint Wheaton and Wild and to appoint Darcy was moved by Molina, seconded, and carried unanimously by voice vote.

What happens next: Staff said they will notify appointees and complete administrative paperwork. The council said it will return periodically to coordinate on code amendments prompted by recent state legislation governing subdivisions and accessory units.
