The Summit County Council unanimously adopted a proclamation declaring April 2023 as Parkinson’s Awareness Month after a Board of Health recommendation and presentations from local advocates.
Advocates described Parkinson’s disease as a progressive neurological disorder affecting motor function and highlighted national and Utah-specific prevalence and cost figures provided in the staff packet. Presenters urged early detection, better access to movement-disorder specialists and increased federal research funding. The Board of Health voted unanimously to forward a positive recommendation prior to the council meeting.
The council adopted Proclamation 2023-04 by unanimous voice vote and requested that staff and health partners publicize awareness activities and resource information during April.
