The sheriff’s representative said the department had previously sold items and placed proceeds into county funds but staff now prefer donation where feasible and noted the heavy administrative burden of cataloging and outreach.
Council questioned whether firearms and other items tied to crimes should be sold; Sheriff’s Office staff argued firearms used in crimes should be destroyed rather than re‑sold, and suggested donation of non‑crime items to community groups after county‑attorney review. The council moved to approve the disposition list as contained in the staff packet dated 07/12/2023; the motion carried unanimously.
