Commission forwards minor moderate-income housing code edits to county council

Snyderville Basin — The Snyderville Basin Planning Commission on Sept. 12 voted 5–0 to forward proposed amendments to the moderate-income housing element of the Snyderville Basin general plan so staff can submit an updated progress report to the state.
Senior planner Jennifer Strater told the commission the state Division of Housing had issued a notice of noncompliance because certain strategies in the county plan must mirror statutory language. Strater said the amendments are limited to strategies E and I: adding a timeline and a state-consistent definition for internal accessory dwelling units and adding language to allow single-room-occupancy developments, with a timeline for code amendments in 2024.
"These amendments before you tonight are simply in response to that notice of noncompliance," Strater said. "Strategy E simply just required a timeline for action ... staff will amend the development code in 2024 to add a definition of internal dwelling unit that is consistent with the state code." Staff recommended the commission conduct a public hearing and forward a positive recommendation to the Summit County Council. No members of the public spoke. Commissioner Thomas made the motion; it was seconded by DJ and passed unanimously.
The amendments will be included in the county’s updated progress report due to the state by Nov. 5.
